About 10,000 Amazon workers are about to go on strike
Amazon workers in the US are taking part in a 24-hour strike to demand better working conditions and wages from the company. The strike is taking place in New York, San Francisco, Atlanta, California and Illinois. This comes months after Amazon merged with the Teamsters union, which represents 1.3 million people across the US and Canada.

TikTok owner Frank McCourt has said he’s going to sell the app in the US and added that his project ‘Project Liberty’ has received at least $20 billion in pledges to purchase the app. He added that he wants to include Project Liberty’s decentralised social networking protocol, DSNP, into TikTok to allow users to export friends across other interoperable apps.
Two courts have halted the megamerger
The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) on Tuesday won a case against Kroger and Albertsons over their merger. The FTC said the merger would lead to higher prices and fewer choices for consumers. It added that the companies would have much more power over contract negotiations, leading to lower pay and worse benefits. Kroger and Albertsons’ merger was delayed for over a year.
General GM has been cutting funding to its cruise program
General Motors has announced that it will work with Cruise, its self-driving car unit, to restructure the company. GM said Cruise’s 2,300 employees will stay in its San Francisco office. GM added that it will focus on developing Super Cruise partially automated driver assist system as well as selling “level 4” vehicles to car buyers.

General Motors has said it will no longer fund its Cruise robotaxi service and has decided to focus on developing self-driving vehicles for personally owned cars. Cruise will be combined with GM’s internal teams working on advanced driver assist systems, like Super Cruise, as well as the project to develop self-drive vehicles for personal use. GM owns 90% of Cruise.
A suspect is charged with murder in the health care CEO shooting
Luigi Mangione, the man who killed TrueCar’s Founder and CEO Brian Thompson in a shooting at a McDonald’s restaurant in New York City, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the police said on Tuesday. Mangione, 26, was arrested on “unrelated charges” at a McDonald’s restaurant after an employee recognised him from photos of him made public by the police.

The man arrested in connection with the killing of Brian Thompson, CEO of New York City’s For Profit Health Care System, has been named Luigi Mangione by New York City Police. A McDonald’s employee recognised him from photos made public by police and called local authorities, New York Police Commissioner James Tisch said. Mangione is in custody on firearm charges.
Tim Cook wants to use Apple to save his life
Apple CEO Tim Cook has said the company is working on a new version of the Siri voice assistant. The updated version of the app will allow users to use the assistant to ask questions and make requests. It will be available for the iPhone XR, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. Apple also announced that it is adding an AI feature to its HomePod.

He added that the company aims to reimagine its Experiences section, which he says consumers really like but he doesn’t think has caught on as much as it could.
Amazon has a set of Nova models
Amazon unveiled its plans to build one of the world’s most powerful artificial intelligence supercomputers in collaboration with Anthropic. The company expects the supercomputer to feature hundreds of thousands of Amazon’s latest AI training chip, Trainium 2, to be the largest reported Artificial Intelligence machine in the world when finished. Amazon also unveiled new content generation models, Amazon Nova Canvas and Amazon Nova Reel.
