The White House said Amazon’s plans to share prices of its goods with newspapers is a “hostile and political act” by the online retail giant. It added that it will look into the issue and “take appropriate action”. Amazon Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos has said he will protect his newspaper Washington Post from being threatened while it pursues its free market crusade.

China has reported 4% GDP growth in the first quarter
UBS has downgraded China’s growth forecast for 2025 to 3.4%, saying that the country’s stimulus programme might slow down due to the US-China trade war. It added that current tariff hikes remain and China rolled out additional stimulus. This comes after the US imposed new 25% tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese imports. China has retaliated with its own tariffs on US goods.
The first CDC vaccine advisers meeting is mostly business as usual
A meeting of US CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) has been postponed amid concerns about “political interference” in vaccine policy, the US Department of Health said. The meeting was originally scheduled to be held in February but was postponed over political concerns. However, CDC spokeswoman Emily Reiss said that the vote was NOT for yearly use of COVID-19 vaccine for the upcoming season.
