The new Pixel 8 is a little bit smarter than its predecessors
Google on Tuesday announced that its new Pixel 8 device will be supported for seven years. This is in addition to the seven years of support it had announced for its previous Pixel phones. The new Pixel 8 sports a 21 percent better main camera than the Pixel 7 and is the same sensor as used on the Pixel 8 Pro.

Sam Bankman-Fried, the Founder of cryptocurrencies exchange firm FTX, and several co-conspirators stole $16.4 million (over 115 crore) from the firm and its customers, a federal prosecutor said on Tuesday. As per FTX lawyers, Bankman-Fried’s son had wired a $10 million (74 crore) cash gift to his parents after he expressed dissatisfaction with his $200,000 salary at FTX.

SoundThinking, the company that made ShotSpotter, a predictive policing software, has acquired patents and customers of PredPol. The acquisition will allow it to apply machine learning to public safety. A US-based civil liberties group, Electronic Privacy Information Center, has claimed that “substantial evidence” suggests American cities are disproportionately deploying ShotSpotter in majority-minority neighbourhoods.
FTC chair Lina Khan’s lawsuit is not related to breaking up Amazon
The US’ Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has filed a lawsuit against Jeff Bezos-led Amazon, accusing the e-commerce company of using “unfair and illegal” tactics to maintain its power. The FTC accused Amazon of using unfair practices to keep competitors away from its website. Amazon said the complaint was “wrong” on the facts and that the company has “vigorously defended” itself against it.
Nothing comes out that costs less than 120 dollars
Technology giant Apple has dropped the price of its wireless charger MagSafe Duo from $94.99 to $64.99 at a third-party store. The device comes with two USB-C ports and one USB-A port. The lowest price for the charger is $35 off at a third-party store. The last time the charger was sold for $94.99 was in April 2019.
The FTC has an antitrust lawsuit against Amazon
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has said it has been looking into Amazon’s Ring doorbell service as well as other areas of Amazon’s business as well. Earlier this year, the FTC had sued Amazon alleging that Ring workers and hackers were illegally spying on customers. Amazon agreed to pay $5.8 million to settle the case.
Apple’s CFO is expected to take the stand in the case on Tuesday
Apple’s browsers aren’t built to win, and they don’t prevent users from using Google’s search engine, Apple’s Senior Vice President Eddy Cue told a US court. Cue said Apple’s browsers didn’t favour Google as much as the US Justice Department claimed. He further said Apple demands a higher percentage of revenue from users that it directed to Google, when the two sides reworked their relationship.

Getty Images has developed an AI-based tool that lets users create images of real people. The company said its model, which is based on over 20 years of photographers’ imagery, doesn’t know who Andy Warhol, Joe Biden or any other real-world person is. “It doesn’t know who Andy Warhol, Joe Biden,…or any other real-world person is,” Getty said.
California has a Ban on Driverless Trucks
California Governor Gavin Newsom has vetoed a bill that would’ve required a safety driver in trucks that weigh more than 10,000 pounds. The law was unnecessary because the state Highway Patrol and the Department of Motor Vehicles already oversee and create regulations for new technology, according to a letter released by the governor.
Unity will never win back the developers it lost
Unity has removed the ‘runtime fee’ on games created with any currently supported Unity versions. The fee would only affect games created or upgraded with the Long term Support version of Unity expected in 2024. From there, developers can pay the fee ” either based on monthly initial engagements or 2.5% of their game’s monthly gross revenue.
