edible cannabis products maker Justin Singer, who makes products under the name Ripple and Ript, increased sales by 500-fold after his product was released to the market. Singer had warned that a surge in sales could trigger inspection from the state Marijuana Enforcement Division. However, a report by the Colorado Department of Health and Safety said there’s no evidence of safety issues.

The Director of Colorado’s Marijuana Enforcement Division, Eidem, said there is a robust process in place to ensure the marijuana supply is free of contaminants. “If we want to require that dog food follow…basic food safety guidelines, then we should, but we don’t have to do that for marijuana, something that many people are using as medicine,” he added.

Pesticides, mold, bacterium, solvent residues and heavy metals like arsenic can find their way in cannabis products from the soil, so state regulators are looking to keep them out.
