Trump account suspension lawsuit will be settled by $25 million from Meta
US President Donald Trump has reached a $25-million (over 182 crore) settlement over the lawsuit he filed against Facebook and Chairman Mark Zuckerberg for “impermissible censorship”. Trump had claimed that Facebook suspended his account after it was requested by the government to do so. He also alleged that Meta, a fact-checking website, was acting at the government’s request when it suspended his accounts.

US-based Meta Technologies, which has over 800 million downloads on its platform ‘Lam’, said it believes “open source” artificial intelligence (AI) models are driving a significant shift in the industry. “That’s going to bring benefits of AI to everyone faster,” a Meta spokesperson said. Earlier, a research paper by DeepSeek claimed its previous model cost only $5.6 million to build.

The European Commission is opening five non-compliance investigations into how Apple, Google and Meta are complying with its new Digital Markets Act antitrust rules. “We suspect that the suggested solutions put forward by the three companies do not fully comply with the DMA,” the EU’s antitrust chief Margrethe Vestager said. It’s also investigating whether Amazon is self-preferencing its own products on its store.
Meta just released a version of llama 2
Meta, which released its AI model ‘Llama 2’ last month, has said that it’s making the model available as a tool for any developer. The model, however, is not available on GitHub or Amazon’s AlphaCode. Earlier, Microsoft had sued GitHub for using some of its open-source code in its training data, which it claims violates the company’s copyright.
