GameStop – A Gamer’s Guide to Preordering the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Wii: Basics, Hardware, and Pre-Sales

Most major retailers launched their Nintendo Switch 2 preorders at 12AM ET on April 24th and sold out quickly — but thankfully, GameStop is doing things a bit differently. The company says it’s kicking off in-store preorders when the “doors open” today, with online preorders going live at 11AM ET. This guide will walk you through how to place a Preorder for the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo Switch, as well as the details you will need to be one of the first to get the game.

The new Joy-Con 2 controllers are attached to the console and there is a new button called the C-button. Inside the box, you’ll also find a redesigned dock, a basic Joy-Con grip, Joy-Con wrist straps, an AC adapter, a USB-C charging capable, and an HDMI cable.

If you’ve been eyeing the new Mario Kart game, you’ll probably want Nintendo’s limited release Switch 2 bundle. At the same time as the standard console, GameStop will start online and in-store pre-sales for the Mario Kart World bundle. You can save $30 on a digital copy of Mario Kart World if you purchase the bundle. In addition to Mario Kart World and a Switch 2, the bundle includes Joy-Con 2 controllers, a dock, and the required HDMI cable, all of which are standard configuration accessories.

Right as the clock rolled over to 11AM, many of us at The Verge experienced issues with the website. At first, GameStop’s website showed me a mostly-blank page – the only text on it was “Oops…Something went wrong” [sic] and a refresh button. Soon after, I and many of my coworkers saw error notices saying the web server was down or that the site was experiencing a bad gateway on GameStop’s website.
