The US Department of Justice (DOJ) is proposing to require Google to give up its Chrome web search engine. The proposal would also require Apple to stop paying partners for preferential treatment of Google’s search engine. It further requires Google to notIFY federal and state officials before proceeding with investments in artificial intelligence (AI).

US Judge rules that the internet search engine is an illegal game

A US judge has ruled that Google is the only real choice as the default search engine for Apple. “Apple has estimated how much it would cost to create and maintain a search platform that could compete with Google,” he said. Apple would have to spend $20 billion to reproduce Google’s technical infrastructure dedicated to search, he added.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai told a court during a trial that Google makes more people do more Google searches, everybody involved in a deal gets paid and that’s the only way to compete. The US Justice Department had sued Google alleging it illegally manoeuvred its business dealings to ensure it was the first search engine people see when they turn on their phones or computers.

Apple’s CFO is expected to take the stand in the case on Tuesday

Apple’s browsers aren’t built to win, and they don’t prevent users from using Google’s search engine, Apple’s Senior Vice President Eddy Cue told a US court. Cue said Apple’s browsers didn’t favour Google as much as the US Justice Department claimed. He further said Apple demands a higher percentage of revenue from users that it directed to Google, when the two sides reworked their relationship.
